JJB Stadium - unavailable on Friday. WIGAN SEEK PLAY-OFF VENUE
Wigan will be unable to play Friday’s Super League elimination play-off against Bradford at their home ground, the JJB Stadium.
They groundshare with Wigan Athletic FC, who have a home game against Sunderland scheduled for the following day.
The Latics received criticism about the playing surface last season, although whether the football club is taking precedent has yet to be confirmed.
The rugby league side has, however, told the Rugby Football League that the ground is unavailable.
In accordance with RFL rules, Wigan have been given an opportunity to find an alternative venue.
The club is already in discussions with officials at both the Stobart Stadium in Widnes and the Halliwell Jones Stadium in Warrington.
A switch to Bradford’s Odsal ground will not happen as the RFL says this would comprise the competition’s integrity.
An RFL spokesperson said: “Given the fixture cannot be staged at the JJB Stadium on the due date, these venues are being pursued in order to minimise disruption to supporters and to ensure that the play-off takes place in a suitable alternative stadium.”
